Nutrition. Dictionary.com defines nutrition as
the act or process of nourishing or of being nourished.
But what does that mean to a busy mama?
When was the last time you felt “nourished” by the foods that you’re eating?
I’ve written about this before and I’m going to venture into it again now because I think it is so crazy important. As a new mama, I totally fell into the convenience trap. I spent so much time and effort nourishing my new children that I had no time to nourish myself.
And so, like so many mamas, nourishment for me came in the form of fast foods or delivery services. I packed on weight, felt sluggish, and rarely had the energy to play with my children.
So after 3 years of feeling like shit, I threw up my hands and declared that I was ready for a change.
Now, making a lifestyle change with 2 littles at home and a full time job was totally overwhelming and felt like an uphill battle. But I leaned on a friend and got down to eating clean.
Today, I can unequivocally tell you that I was not nourishing myself before. In fact, when I find myself slipping back into that food rut, I feel the effects of overindulgence - bloating, weight gain, poor sleep, mood imbalance, nausea, guilt, skin breaking out, poor concentration, lethargy - take hold stronger than ever.
So the next time you think to yourself, “I’ll just grab a bar!” take an extra 30 seconds to read the label. Steer clear of processed “food” and instead stock your cabinets with WHOLE, FRESH, NUTRITIOUS foods.
If you can only find the time or energy to do one good thing for yourself each day, make this Be it. Nothing will transform your life like fueling your body with clean fuel.
