Let's get to know each other!
My name is Jessica Groff, and I'm the gal behind Groff Nation.
My journey with nutrition and wellness began 20 years ago, when I was a 17 year old kid who didn't know any better. I was 5'2" and weighed 100 pounds soaking wet with rocks in my pockets. I drank like a fish, and my favorite after school snack was a hunk of Polly-O mozzarella melted on a plate in the microwave. My nickname back then was "Jessy the Body". Imagine that.
And it was all downhill from there.
In college, I subscribed to Pizza Hut and the local Chinese food joint. I spent my nights in frat houses, drinking my body weight in crappy beer. I subsequently gained the freshman 45, and I struggled with my weight and being happy in my own skin from that moment on.
Over the years, I've tried everything, from Atkins, to South Beach, to veganism. I looked at the Italian women in my family and resigned myself to that body type (if you're an Italian woman, you understand what I mean!).
In 2008, I met my husband, Hershey. We bonded over extravagant and decadent dinners. We dated for 3 years until we were married in 2011. It was the best day of my life. And I was at my thinnest since high school.
And then in 2013, I gave birth to twin baby girls, dropped a TON of weight, and then immediately gained it all back AND THEN SOME. Soon after their birth, I found myself unraveling. I was not the same woman who I once was and I felt SO out of control. I felt like I was standing in the middle of a crowded room screaming at the top of my lungs...but no one could hear me.
As I learned how to feed my children organic food, and spent a TON of time researching and making baby foods from scratch, I allowed my health and my husband's health to fall to the wayside. After long days at work, we ordered in more than not, and since we were living in a tiny apartment with our baby girls, making nutritious, home cooked meals fell to the back burner.
In 2016, I was suffering. My energy was so low that I found myself falling asleep on the couch when we got home from work. My kids would run circles around me, which would just irritate me. I was covered in hives from head to toe, and my eyes were dull and surrounded by dark circles. I felt swollen and puffy, and my gut hung over every pair of pants that I owned. I felt like most of my clothes were going to bust open at the seams. I spent a lot of time aggravated and feeling like I was drowning. I looked at a woman in the mirror who I did not recognize. And then something clicked.
I joined a clean eating and wellness challenge. And then I joined another. And then I signed up for a weight loss and exercise program and dropped ALL OF THE WEIGHT. I was back to what I weighed before I got married! I had energy. Clarity. I started learning about whole foods and how the foods we eat can fix EVERYTHING.
Today, I am a no B.S. mama who is teaching women to take back their lives, one bite at a time.
I’m an educator at heart. I am always researching and asking questions, trying to find a simpler, more straightforward way of living life. I thrive in an uncomplicated lifestyle, and I take steps towards that every single day. The steps are small, but they are there, and they give me some sense of control over my world.
I started implementing good habits one at a time. I am a thorough researcher of self-care, wellness, good eating, and organization. The RESULTS that I’ve gotten from implementing all that I’ve learned are astonishing.
I lost 30 pounds.
I felt the fog lifting.
I gained back my independence.
I successfully taught my kids healthy eating habits (even my husband has jumped on the bandwagon!).
When my clients started to see similar results, I knew that I had found something that I had to pay forward. There seemed to be a light at the end of the tunnel. And I want to help you to see it, too.
Are you ready to get started on your own wellness journey? Great...
