Let's get to know each other!

My name is Jessica Groff, and I'm the gal behind Groff Nation.

In 1991, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Back then, not much was known about the illness, and my psychiatrist at the time recommended that my mother put me on lithium. My mother refused — and so the 7 year trial and error period of my life began. From Prozac to Zoloft to Ritalin, we tried everything we could to stabilize my moods. But nothing seemed to work and I felt like I was in a constant fog.

My journey with nutrition and wellness began when I was a 17 year old kid who didn't know any better. I ate like crap and drank like a fish, but I noticed something — the worse I ate, the worse my mood swings were, and the harder it was to bring myself to an upswing. I started dabbling in the kitchen, making my own salad dressings and English muffin pizzas.

I was 19 years old when I watched as my favorite person in the world got sick. I watched helplessly as the disease took hold. I watched him fight it. I watched his hair fall out. I watched as they took pieces of his lungs little by little. I watched him lose his strength. I stood there as he even lost his voice — my favorite part about him. I can still hear him saying “cakeyyyyy” when he saw his favorite course of the meal come out.

What I slowly came to realize was that losing my grandfather WAY too soon could have been PREVENTED. It could have been avoided.

He could still be here with us today.

After my grandfather succumbed to lung cancer in June of 1999, I made it my mission to fight in his honor. I volunteered relentlessly with the American Cancer Society on multiple projects — from the GWB Challenge to Relay for Life to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. And over the years I’ve been the one to hug and cry and scream “FUCK CANCER” as my friends and family also lost loved ones or battled cancer themselves.


By the time I was 24 years old and living on my own, I understood the complexity of how nutrition and exercise were an integral part of my wellbeing. I dabbled in a few different diets before I found that eliminating meat from my diet gave me the mental clarity that I had been craving for almost 15 years. My moods leveled out and I dropped some weight, and then I met the love of my life.


A New Beginning

In 2013, Hershey and I welcomed twin baby girls into our little family, 8 weeks early. Soon after their birth, I found myself unraveling. I was struggling with postpartum depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, and I was not the same woman who I once was. I felt SO out of control. I felt like I was standing in the middle of a crowded room screaming at the top of my lungs...but no one could hear me.

As I learned how to feed my children organic food, and spent a TON of time researching and making baby foods from scratch, I allowed my health and my husband's health to fall to the wayside. After long days at work, we ordered in more than not, and since we were living in a tiny apartment with our baby girls, making nutritious, home cooked meals fell to the back burner.


Three years ago, I was suffering. My energy was so low that I found myself falling asleep on the couch when we got home from work. My kids would run circles around me, which would just irritate me. I was covered in hives from head to toe, and my eyes were dull and surrounded by dark circles. I felt swollen and puffy, and my gut hung over every pair of pants that I owned. I felt like most of my clothes were going to bust open at the seams. I spent a lot of time aggravated and feeling like I was drowning, and my mood swings were so severe that I drove most of the people I loved away from me. I looked at a woman in the mirror who I did not recognize.

And then I looked around at the women in my life and realized something. They were all aging, AND they were all falling victim to different diseases. Cancer. Alzheimer’s. Thyroidisms. Multiple Sclerosis.

I was terrified. I could inherit these diseases one day if I didn’t start taking better care of myself. Even worse, I could pass these illnesses on to my DAUGHTERS. My whole life has revolved around disease and the damage that it leaves in its wake.

I am so over disease taking our loved ones from us. And I will be DAMNED if disease takes ME away from those I love.

Something has to change.

Today, I help women reduce their risk of disease through targeted dietary and lifestyle changes so that they can beat the odds and take back their FUTURE!

I’m an educator at heart. I am always researching and asking questions, trying to find a simpler, more straightforward way of living life. I thrive in an uncomplicated lifestyle, and I take steps towards that every single day. The steps are small, but they are there, and they give me some sense of control over my world. Over my future and the future of my daughters.

I started implementing good habits one at a time. I am a thorough researcher of self-care, wellness, good eating, and disease prevention, risk reduction, and post-illness lifestyle. The RESULTS that I’ve gotten from implementing all that I’ve learned are astonishing.

  •  I lost 30 pounds.

  • I felt the fog lifting.

  • I took control of my health.

  • I no longer felt as though I was at the mercy of my heredity.

  • My mood swings stabilized.

  • I successfully taught my kids healthy eating habits.

When my clients started to see similar results, I knew that I had found my calling. There seemed to be a light at the end of the tunnel. And I want to help you to see it, too.

I believe that we have the power to heal ourselves from the inside out, through simple but powerful nutrition and lifestyle changes. I empower my clients to take control of their lives, and we work side-by-side to create steps towards the life that they truly want to lead.

We look at the WHOLE picture — from nutrition, to personal development, to leisure and fun (imagine that!).
